Goals and Objectives


Goal: 1

To provide quality education in nursing comparable to the international levels

Objectives:

1. To design, develop and offer undergraduate programs:

a. Bachelor of Science in Nursing – BSN Program 2007; Achieved
b. RN-BSN Bridge program in Nursing by 2008 Achieved


2. To design, develop and offer graduate programs after the accreditation process is completed for the respective undergraduate program:

a. Master of Science in Nursing- MSN Program by 2010 – Specialties in : Adult health, Psychiatric-mental health, community health &pediatric nursing achieved.

3. To develop and offer diploma and other contemporary educational curricula to meet international standards:

a. Selected diploma in clinical specialties:

i. Psychiatric Nursing
ii. Maternity Nursing/Midwifery
iii. Critical Care Nursing
iv. Oncological Nursing

4. To provide required infrastructure facilities, including library and IT resources to support quality education.

5. To develop an evaluation system to monitor the outcomes of all programs including budget:

a. Monitor the effective implementation of college level strategic plan
b. Monitor the course outcomes of all the programs
c. Monitor the faculty performance

6. To recruit and retain academic fraternity committed to creation and application of knowledge.

7. To recruit students committed to acquiring knowledge, skills and appropriate attitudes towards patient care.

8. To promote diversity and academic freedom amongst faculty and students.

9. To develop courses for new master’s degree program (e.g. Critical Care Nursing, Oncological Nursing etc) and later online web-based master’s program.

10. To develop selected doctoral learning experiences online.

Goal: 2

To ensure that each student nurse is exposed to wide range of learning opportunities in both practice and theory

Objectives:

1. To plan curriculum based on the current trends and advancements in health sciences education;

2.  To provide learning opportunities that support lifelong learning both theory and practice;

3. To evaluate the curriculum against the established outcomes and revise it to suit the future trends.

4. To support the faculty to utilize the available learning resources.

5. To promote faculty satisfaction in the work environment.

Goal: 3

To promote the development of professional knowledge and practice through evidence - based learning and problem-solving approaches.

Objectives:

1. To promote conducive clinical learning environment.

2.  To utilize evidence based, problem solving and team approaches in teaching and learning.

3. To develop clinical skills training that is acceptable with international standards.

Goal: 4

To collaborate with health care providers in determining the educational needs of nurses, thus reflecting national and local workforce trends and priorities.

Objectives:

1. To collaborate with local and national health care institutions.

2.  To identify the educational needs of nurses within UAE.

3. To identify peer institutions and provide comparison for best practices.

Goal: 5

To educate students to utilize research within a stimulating and supportive environment for improving the quality of patient care, implementing change in nursing practice and for making nursing practice decision.

Objectives:

1. To promote research among students to improve their clinical practice.

2.  To facilitate the faculty to write for research projects and receive research grants.

3. To encourage faculty to publish research papers in scientific journals.

4. To monitor budgetary support of and access to conferences, external seminars, research and to ensure the key results are entered into the annual strategic plan for action and review.

5. Create awareness regarding intellectual property rights.

Goal: 6

To focus on the commitment to principle of ‘lifelong learning’ by providing appropriate continuing professional development modules and pathways.

Objectives:

1. To develop strategies to support lifelong learning via both print and electronic sources and to remain current with the advances in medical and health sciences knowledge, skills and practice.

2.  To demonstrate the ability to acquire new information and data and to critically appraise its validity and applicability to one’s professional decision and particularly career planning.

3. To monitor the outcomes of the strategies to support lifelong learning for students, academic faculty and admin staff and to ensure the key results are entered into the annual strategic plan for action and review.

4. To develop an alumni association to support graduates in their life after RAKCON.

5. To design, develop and offer CNE programs.

6. To encourage faculty to participate in scholarly activities by attending workshops, conferences and seminars contributing to faculty development.

Goal: 7

To develop students to use concepts from humanities and the behavioral sciences to understand oneself and others, the relationship between people, and the functioning of communities.

Objectives:

1. To display the personal attributes of compassion, honesty and integrity in relationships with patients, colleagues and communities.

2.  To provide opportunities for students all round development including leadership and promotion of health.

3. To develop academic advising unit and counseling cell.

4. To establish relationship with local communities through involvement in community health projects.

5. To demonstrate the ability to educate the patients and community about various health problems and to motivate them to adopt health promoting behaviors.

Goal: 8

To develop an understanding of professional ethics and practice it.

Objectives:

1. To identify the implications of basic ethical principles including confidentiality, informed consent, truth telling and justice for the care of the patient.

2.  To demonstrate the ability to communicate compassionately and effectively, both verbally and in writing with colleagues, patients and their families.

3. To exhibit a capacity for self-evaluation, moral reflection and ethical reasoning to form the basis for a self-directed, lifelong engagement and involvement in the medical and health sciences profession.
