Dean's Message

Dear Friends,

The RAK College of Nursing has grown significantly since its inception in 2007 when it established a baccalaureate nursing program. Currently, we offer two undergraduate educational programs: BSN degree for the high school graduates and RN-BSN Bridge program for the diploma trained registered nurses. We feel great to be the first institution in UAE to have Master of Science in nursing degree program with four different important specialties. We are really delighted to inform that both our bachelor and Master degree programs i.e. BSN, RN-BSN Bridge and MSN have got the full accreditation from the Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research (MOHE&SR), UAE for BSN, RN-BSN and MSN on 26th September 2012 and MSN 21st December’ 2014 for all specialties - Adult Health Nursing, Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing, Community Health Nursing program and Pediatric Nursing.

Students’ enrollment has tremendously improved over the past years specifically for RN-BSN bridge program and we have increased the intake of students from 50 to 65 after seeking permission from MOHE&SR and still efforts are being made to be more visible not only all over UAE, but also in the entire Middle East region. We had very positive response with regard to the admission for the current academic year 2014-2015 for the bachelor and masters programs. A total of 28 students for BSN and 65 students for RN-BSN bridge program have been admitted this year. There was an upward trend for the admissions for MSN program and all the designated number of admissions for MSN was filled. Despite the challenges, what kept us on the path during the year was our commitment to our mission, vision and values. Keeping in line with the emiratization policy of the country, we had planned to encourage from arts and commerce stream high school Emirati students to join the Conversion program, who have 75% aggregate GPA. This program enables the students to fulfill the admission minimum eligibility requirement for the Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) program. The ministry of health has sponsored 12 students from the conversion and 6 science stream students for the 1st year BSN program for academic year 2014-2015.

The fourth batch of BSN Program as well as fifth batch of RN-BSN Bridge program students graduated during the third University convocation held on 30th September, 2014. I am very glad to inform that the Second batch of Master of Science in nursing program (MSN) in Adult Health Nursing Specialty, 6 students successfully completed the program and got their MSN degree during this convocation. All our students are not only good academically, but also they actively participate in all extra-curricular co-curricular conducted by the student affair of RAKMHSU and student nurses Forum (SNF) of RAKCON. We are happy to announce that all the BSN graduates of our college have been recruited in the hospitals of different emirates of UAE, RN-BSN graduates working in MOH hospitals of UAE have been promoted to higher positions. MSN students also got additional increments and some of them promoted to higher positions. I would like to also highlight that all our graduates of 2013-2014 have passed HAAD Licensing examination. All the students also have the MOH license for practice. I am really very excited and proud to say that we have almost achieved all planned strategies for RAKCON till the year 2014 – 2015.

In this document we have provided evidence of our efforts to fulfill our mission. There is no way that I can adequately express my appreciation and gratitude to the university authorities for their constant support and cooperation. I would also like to express my sincere thanks to RAKCOMS and General Education faculties for their contributions in conducting lectures for some of the courses in the BSN, RN-BSN and MSN Programs. I would also like to appreciate and thank all my faculty and students for their cooperation and support in achieving our mission, philosophy, goals & objectives.
